PostDoc Position, Metagenomics Platform, University of the Free State
BioPAD Biotechnology Regional Innovation Centre (BioPAD BRIC), an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology, and the University of the Free State have established a METAGENOMICS PLATFORM at the University of the Free State. The platform focuses on the detection, cloning and expression of genes of potential commercial interest, from extreme environments, with a special focus on the deep mines and mining environment of South Africa.
An opportunity exists for POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS to become involved in this exciting research endeavor. Expertise in the construction of large (fosmid) and small insert (plasmid or phagemid) libraries, cloning of genes and expressing of the proteins OR microbial isolation, identification and population studies are an ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENT FOR THE POSTDOC. The successful candidate will drive his/her own project within the context of the platform and be actively involved with practical guidance to PhD students.
An amount of R160 000 per year (calculated pro rata for part of a year) is offered for the successful candidate.
The appointment will be for one year with the possibility of extension for a maximum of two more years, based on performance.
Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged groups in making an appointment.
